A Multi-Function Integrated Circuit Breaker for DC Grid Applications

The protection and current flow regulation of high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) grids requires the deployment additional semiconductor-based equipment including dc circuit breakers (DCCBs) controllers (CFCs). However, inclusion multiple devices could significantly increase total cost an HVDC system. To potentially reduce costs, this paper presents innovative multi-function integrated DCCB (MF-ICB). proposed device exhibits a reduced number semiconductor switches can fully block faults at different locations while regulating currents. configuration solution its operating principle are assessed, with performance being examined in PSCAD/EMTDC using three-terminal grid. Simulation results demonstrate capability effectiveness MF-ICB to regulate grid isolate faults.
